Jake Andrew's latest exhibition, Syzygy, explores the delicate balance between opposition and alignment between the physical and the digital, the static and the dynamic, the seen and the heard. Rooted in the concept of "syzygy" which refers to the astronomical alignment of celestial bodies, Andrew's work seeks to reflect these cosmic phenomena within the context of modern abstract painting. In this exhibition, the artist positions sound and color as intertwined forces, evoking an experience where one momentarily dissolves into the other.
Through an innovative audiovisual installation, Andrew invites the audience to experience his paintings in an entirely new way. Each physical painting in the exhibition has been digitally sequenced and manipulated, producing a series of dynamic visual and auditory compositions. The resulting audiovisual score, composed by the artist himself, serves as a guide leading the viewer on a sensory journey that transcends the limitations of traditional painting. Here, color and sound converge in perfect harmony, illuminating the paradoxes inherent in Andrew's practice: the tension between abstraction and representation, the material and the immaterial, the finite and the infinite.
As the viewer navigates the gallery, the physicality of the paintings becomes fluid, their boundaries expanding as the digital realm invites them to move, pulse, and resonate. What was once confined to canvas is now liberated, allowed to "dance" across the digital plane, engaging the audience in a dialogue that is as much about perception as it is about reflection.
In Syzygy, Andrew's work extends an invitation to reconsider the boundaries of contemporary art. By blurring the lines between visual art and sound, he challenges how we experience both. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the universe of abstract painting through the lens of technology, sound, and motion, a synthesis of past and present, reality and imagination. It is a celebration of how the collision of art and technology can create new, unexpected experiences of the world around us.
Syzygy is more than just an exhibition, it is a sensory immersion that reflects the interconnectedness of the universe and the continuous dance between what we see, hear, and feel. Welcome to a new way of seeing, experiencing, and being.
